The amphibious robot’s form is quite similar to that of a living sea snake, as it allows both swimming and crawling. Like other snake-inspired robots, the ACM-R5 was developed for the purpose of performing search and rescue missions such as looking for people trapped in collapsed buildings and other tight spaces. The snake-bot could also help build underground optical fiber infrastructures, and inspect unreachable waterways and sewer systems. Click for a video of its movements
